We present two seminars in the area of augmented perception and augmented reality. These seminars will be presented at the 2017 ACHI (Advances in Human-Computer Interactions) conference in Nice, France.

Seminar #1:

Sonification of 3D Object Shape for Sensory Substitution: An Empirical Exploration

Speaker: Torkan Gholamalizadeh

An empirical investigation is presented of different approaches to sonification of 3D objects as a part of a sensory substitution system. The system takes 3D point clouds of objects obtained from a depth camera and presents them to a user as spatial audio. Two approaches to shape sonification are presented and their characteristics investigated.

Speaker bio: Graduated from the University of Tabriz with a Bachelor degree in Information Technology, working in computer vision, machine learning and sensory substitution.

Seminar #2:

A Comparative Assessment of User Interfaces for Choreography Design

Speaker: Tafadzwa Joseph Dube

In this study, we investigate the effects of different interaction techniques on user experience for a choreography generator interface. We develop an augmented reality choreography generator and compare it with 1) a personal computer based choreography generator and 2) a mobile application for choreography generation. Our research contributes to the study of how different interaction methods of the same application affect user experience.

Speaker bio: Graduated from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe with a BSc in Computer Science, working in HCI (Human-Computer Interaction), virtual/augmented reality, machine learning, and the Internet of Things.
